Mizoram

Mizoram is the land of Mizo with the state capital at Aizawl, though Mizo is the official language but English is widely used. It is one of the Seven Sister States in north eastern India with beautiful places with its dramatic landscape and pleasant climate. Beauty is the evergreen ranges of hills with blooms of exotic flora and dense bamboo jungles rising sharply from the plains nearly 30% of the state are covered with wild bamboo forests. It shares borders with the states of Tripura, Assam, Manipur and with the neighboring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar. 21 major hills ranges or peaks of different heights run through the length and breadth of the state with an average height of about 1,000 meters / 3281 feet. Phawngpui Tlang also known as the Blue Mountain in the south – eastern part of the state is the highest peak in Mizoram at 2210 meters / 7251 feet. Aizawl is scenic with its surrounding area and largest city in the states. It is situated at an altitude of 3715 feet and is a religious and cultural center of the Mizos. Palak Lake, the biggest in Mizoram is situated in Saiha District which is part of southern Mizoram covering 30 hectares (74 acres) and the Tamdil Lake is a natural lake situated 85 kilometers from Aizawl. Significant lake in Mizo history Rih Dil is ironically located in Burma, a few kilometers from the India – Burma border. Mizo traditional tunes are very soft and gentle. Mim Kut, Chapchar Kut and Pawl Kut are some of the festivals worth watching. They enjoy country style music. Gospel music remains an integral part of Mizo culture; Western influence is evident from the contemporary music scene as young people experiment with rock, metal, rap, etc. In Aizawl Bara Bazar, Luangmual Handicarfts Centre, Mizoram State Museum, Durtlang Hills and Mini Zoo are worth visiting.
